Use at your own risk
Hydrochart is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. While the tool implements well-documented hydrochemical methods and is actively maintained and improved, we make no guarantee of accuracy, completeness, fitness for purpose, or freedom from errors. You are responsible for verifying all outputs before use.
You are responsible for your results
The diagrams and analyses produced by Hydrochart are tools only. They are not professional hydrogeological opinions or certifications. You, the user, are entirely responsible for:
- Verifying the accuracy of your input data (ion concentrations, TDS, pH).
- Interpreting the plots correctly and in context.
- Mandatory verification before any use in reports or decisions (see below).
- Determining whether the tool is appropriate for your intended use.
- Compliance with any applicable regulations or standards in your jurisdiction.
Mandatory verification before use
You must not use any output from Hydrochart in a report, decision, or work product for a third party until you have completed all of the following verification steps:
- Check the charge balance. Review the per-sample charge-balance error displayed in the app. Reject any sample with charge balance worse than ±5% (or your project standard) unless you can explain the error from the underlying chemistry.
- Visually inspect the plots. Confirm that all data points are within expected bounds, that no samples are missing, and that the patterns make chemical sense given your understanding of the system.
- Cross-check against a reference sample. Plot at least one known reference sample or a previous analysis in Hydrochart and verify that the output matches your expectations and past results.
- Verify input–output consistency. Spot-check that the plot output matches your input data — manually trace a few samples from your CSV into the diagram to ensure parsing and conversion were correct.
Failure to complete these steps before relying on Hydrochart's output nullifies your protections under this disclaimer and may constitute professional negligence on your part.
Quality assurance features
Hydrochart includes built-in quality-assurance tools to support verification:
- Charge-balance calculation: Each sample shows its meq% error. This is your first filter for data quality.
- Ion-summation TDS: If you don't supply TDS, it is estimated from ion sum. This estimate is marked "est" in the tool and should be verified against a measured TDS if available.
- Automatic column matching: Column names are matched intelligently, but you should always review the mapping before plotting.
- Manual editing: You can edit individual values in the tool before plotting — use this to test sensitivity to questionable data points.
These features help you catch errors, but they do not replace professional judgment.
No liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hydrochart and its creators disclaim all liability for:
- Errors or inaccuracies in the calculations or plots.
- Loss of data, income, profits, or any other consequential, indirect, incidental, special or punitive damages arising from use of or inability to use the tool.
- Reliance by you or any third party on any results produced by Hydrochart.
- Unauthorized access to, alteration of, or deletion of data.
Data privacy
Hydrochart stores no data on external servers. All calculations run in your browser. Your data never leaves your device. However, we are not responsible for the security of your device or network.
Acceptable use
You agree to use Hydrochart only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these terms. You agree not to:
- Use it in a way that infringes anyone's intellectual property rights.
- Harass, abuse, or harm anyone.
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the system or its code.
- Reproduce or republish the tool or its source without acknowledgment.
Changes to terms
We may update these terms at any time. Continued use of Hydrochart constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
Acknowledgments
Hydrochart's methods follow the open-source Python package WQChartPy (Yang et al. 2022). Diagram implementations are based on peer-reviewed hydrochemical literature. See the About page for full references.
